Italy Post tracking parcel

What this status means

Italy Post (Poste Italiane) writes that a postal operator at a post office has taken charge of the shipment. The parcel has been handed over to Italy Post's network or scanned at a post office counter. It is in Italian's usual "presa in carico" step: the courier is now responsible for it. It usually appears early on, though it can also show up after the parcel has already been in transit.

Is my package delayed?

This message by itself is normal and not an exception. It does not point to a problem. Seeing it after "in transit" is common, because the parcel is often scanned again at a post office along the way. Only worry if the tracking stays on this line for longer than the previous steps took.

What happens next

  • Most often, a plain "in transit" update follows (about half of cases).
  • For international parcels, the next step is often transit at the International Processing Centre (about two in five cases).
  • Sometimes the same post office message repeats.
  • Rarely, a customs check at the processing centre appears.

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history; a new scan should follow.
  • If nothing changes for longer than usual, contact Italy Post or the sender and give them the tracking number.
  • Have your order details and the delivery address ready.
  • If the parcel comes from abroad, be ready for possible customs checks or duties.
