PostNL's X-ray scan at its sorting center flagged the parcel as containing something that is not allowed in the post, and the item was rejected from the normal flow. The parcel is still in PostNL's hands, held at the sorting facility. The scan alone does not confirm a prohibited item. It means a closer check is needed.
This is an exception, not a routine step. Parcels that reach this message are held back for extra checks, so a delay is likely. It does not automatically mean the parcel is lost or will be sent back.
Most often, in about seven out of ten cases, the next message is "Item released after secondary registration process". That means the extra check was completed and the parcel went back into the normal flow. Less often the parcel is delayed again, or it is declared undeliverable and returned to the sender. Each of those outcomes happens in roughly one case in seven.
