What this status means
The bpost postman came to your address with the parcel, but could not hand it over. This can happen when nobody answers the door, when the parcel does not fit in the letterbox, or when a signature is needed. The "addressee is informed" part means a notice has been left or sent to tell you. The parcel is still with bpost and is on the last stage of its journey.
Is my package delayed?
This message is an exception, but a common one and not a sign that the parcel is lost. The delivery has been pushed back by one attempt. In about one third of cases the next update is "Item delivered". The same message sometimes appears again after another failed attempt, so a repeat does not mean something new has gone wrong.
What happens next
- Most often, bpost tries again and the parcel is delivered.
- In about one in six cases, the parcel is moved to a pick-up point for you to collect.
- Sometimes another attempt fails and the message repeats, or a note says a new delivery is foreseen because you were absent.
What you can do
- Look for a notice in your letterbox or a message from bpost, and follow its instructions.
- Make sure someone can receive the parcel at the next attempt, or choose a pick-up point if the notice offers it.
- If it is collected at a pick-up point, bring ID and the notice, and collect it before the deadline shown.
- If the status stays unchanged for longer than usual, contact bpost with your tracking number and address. If that does not help, contact the seller with your order details.
