Clearance delay - Import - Goods are subject to regulatory review

FedEx tracking parcel

What this status means

The parcel has reached the destination country and is held at customs. FedEx is waiting for a government agency to check the goods before they can be imported. This review is a regulatory check on what is inside the parcel. It does not mean the parcel is lost or damaged, and it is not a delivery attempt.

Is my package delayed?

This message is an exception, so some delay is likely. The parcel is held longer than the previous steps, but it is not a sign of a problem by itself. In most cases the next update is a release from customs. Nothing is guaranteed, because the outcome depends on the agency's review.

What happens next

Most often, in about half of cases (56%), the next line is "International shipment release - Import", which means the parcel has cleared. After that it usually continues to a local FedEx facility and then out for delivery. Sometimes FedEx passes the paperwork to an outside customs broker, who finishes the clearance.

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history. Reviews like this often resolve without any action from you.
  • Watch for a request for documents, an invoice, or a payment of duties and taxes, and answer it quickly.
  • If the status stays the same for longer than usual, contact FedEx with your tracking number.
  • Ask the seller for the invoice and a description of the contents, and have your order details ready.
