FedEx

On the way - Paperwork available for non-FedEx broker

FedEx tracking parcel

What this status means

The parcel is an international shipment that has reached its destination country and needs customs clearance. The customs paperwork, such as the invoice and shipment details, has been made available to a clearance broker that is not part of FedEx. This is usually the broker chosen by the sender or the recipient to handle the import. The parcel itself is typically still held at a FedEx facility while this happens.

Is my package delayed?

By itself, this message is normal. It is a routine customs step, not a sign of loss or damage. It can add time, though, because the parcel cannot move on until the broker processes the paperwork and customs accepts it. If the status stays unchanged for longer than the previous steps took, it is worth following up.

What happens next

  • Most often, the next update is "International shipment release - Import", meaning customs has cleared the parcel.
  • In some cases the parcel goes straight to "On the way" or "At local FedEx facility" and then on to delivery.
  • Sometimes it is handed over to the broker, shown as "Delivered to a non-FedEx clearance broker".

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history for a release update.
  • If you named a broker, or the seller arranged one, ask them whether they have received the paperwork and need anything from you.
  • Be ready to pay import duties or taxes if the broker requests them. Clearance often depends on this.
  • If nothing changes for longer than usual, contact FedEx or the seller with your tracking number and order details.
