UPS

A missing commercial invoice is causing a delay. We are currently waiting for information from the sender

UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

The parcel is at a UPS facility, usually while it is being cleared through customs. Customs needs a commercial invoice, the document that lists what is in the parcel and what it is worth, and it has not been received. UPS is waiting for the sender to supply it. The parcel itself is not lost or damaged.

Is my package delayed?

Yes, this is an exception, not a routine scan. The parcel cannot move on until the paperwork is sorted out, so the journey is on hold. Whether it is a short or long hold depends on how quickly the sender responds. In some cases the parcel carries on after a warehouse scan, and in others UPS posts a follow-up message saying it is still working to obtain the invoice.

What happens next

  • Most often, once the invoice arrives, the parcel gets a warehouse scan and continues.
  • Sometimes it departs the facility soon afterwards.
  • Sometimes a similar message appears again while UPS keeps chasing the sender.
  • Customs may still ask for further information or charge duties before release.

What you can do

  • Keep checking the tracking history for a new scan.
  • Contact the seller soon and ask them to send UPS a commercial invoice for the shipment.
  • If the delay continues longer than usual, contact UPS with your tracking number and the order details.
  • Be ready to pay import duties or taxes if UPS requests them.
