Canada Post has logged that your parcel went wrong at one of its sorting facilities. A scanner or sorting machine sent it down the wrong path, or it was sent to the wrong place, so it is being redirected toward the right route. The parcel is still in the postal network, not lost.
This message is an exception, not a routine step. Canada Post itself adds "possible delay" because the detour can make the trip take longer than usual. It is not a sign the parcel is lost or damaged. Whether you actually see a delay depends on how far the parcel was sent off course.
In every case where this message appears, the next update is "Item processed". That means the parcel has been scanned again at a facility and is back on its way. After that, expect the usual in-transit scans, then out for delivery.
