The Deutsche Post driver could not hand over the parcel on the delivery round, usually because nobody was able to receive it. The parcel has been redirected to a postal retail outlet, a shop or counter that accepts parcels for collection. It is no longer on the delivery vehicle and is on its way to that outlet or already there.
This message is an exception, but a common and mild one. Nearly every case follows a loaded-for-delivery message from the same day, so the parcel was close to you. It is not lost. Delivery to your door has not happened, and the parcel now has to be collected.
Most often the next update says the shipment is available for pick-up at the retail outlet. In about a third of cases it first reads "Ready for pickup next business day", meaning the outlet has not yet received it. Less often, another delivery-failed message appears. A pickup notification usually follows.
