Netherlands Post tracking parcel

What this status means

PostNL is holding your parcel at one of its facilities instead of delivering it right now, and the recipient is being told about it. The parcel is safe and inside PostNL's network. It is not lost. The message says nothing about why it is being held, so look for a notification from PostNL by email, SMS or a card through the door.

Is my package delayed?

This message by itself is an exception rather than a routine step, but it is not usually a serious problem. The parcel has not moved on the normal path for the moment. Most often the next update is a successful delivery, so it often resolves without any action from you. If the hold lasts longer than the previous steps did, treat it as a delay.

What happens next

  • Most often (about 57% of cases) the parcel is delivered successfully.
  • In about 15% of cases it goes to a pickup point and waits for you there.
  • Sometimes the same message appears again, or the parcel goes back out for delivery or to a sorting centre.

What you can do

  • Check your email, SMS and letterbox for a PostNL notice. It may explain the hold or ask for something.
  • Make sure the delivery address and contact details on the order are correct.
  • If you have not been contacted and the status stays the same for longer than usual, contact PostNL with your tracking number.
  • If the parcel came from abroad, also ask the seller, with your order details ready, whether customs charges or paperwork are pending.
