What this status means
The parcel has been turned back at the sending country's side of the journey. "Line-haul" is the long-distance leg between the origin hub and the destination country. "Returned to domestic location" means the parcel was pulled off that leg and sent back to a warehouse in the country it started from. Most often this follows a customs refusal such as "Restricted goods" or "Contraband goods". Sometimes it follows a declaration problem or a deliberate interception.
Is my package delayed?
This is an exception, not a normal delivery step. The parcel is no longer heading to you, and it usually will not arrive unless the order is reshipped. The message alone does not say whether the cause was the item, the paperwork or the address.
What happens next
Most often the next scan is "Handover from return warehouse", meaning the parcel is being passed on through the return process. In some cases the next scan is that it is sent out directly from a consolidation warehouse, or that the delivery company in the departure country has received it. A smaller share end with a "Shipping details incorrect" return.
What you can do
- Keep checking the tracking history for the next return scans.
- Open the order in your AliExpress account and look for a dispute, refund or cancellation notice.
- If nothing changes for longer than usual, message the seller with your tracking number and order details.
- Ask the seller about a refund or a reshipment, and check that your address and the item description are correct.
