Clearance delay - Import - A specialized form/statement from the shipper is required

FedEx tracking parcel

What this status means

Your parcel has reached the destination country and is held at customs. FedEx has flagged a clearance delay because customs needs a specialized form or statement from the shipper, the sender, before it will let the parcel through. The parcel is physically in a FedEx import facility and is not moving until the paperwork is sorted out.

Is my package delayed?

Yes, this is an exception. The parcel has stopped at customs and will not continue until the missing document is supplied. It does not mean the parcel is lost or will be returned. In the usual pattern, the next step after this message is the import release, so the hold is normally resolved and the parcel moves on.

What happens next

Once the shipper provides the required form or statement and customs accepts it, FedEx records "International shipment release - Import". The parcel then leaves customs and goes on to local delivery. Until then, the tracking history will probably show no new scans, so a long pause is expected.

What you can do

  • Check the tracking page again over the next few days for the release scan.
  • Contact the seller or sender and ask them to send FedEx the form or statement customs has requested.
  • Call FedEx customer service and ask exactly which document is missing and how to submit it.
  • Have your tracking number and order details ready. Be prepared to pay any import duties or taxes once the parcel is released.
