Delivered to a non-FedEx clearance broker

FedEx tracking parcel

What this status means

FedEx has handed your parcel to a customs clearance broker that is not part of FedEx. The broker deals with the import paperwork and customs checks for your shipment. The parcel is not at your address and has not been delivered to you, even though the word "Delivered" appears in the message. It is with the broker, who is the final recipient of this step only.

Is my package delayed?

By itself, this message is normal for shipments that cross a border and use an outside broker. It is not a failure or a loss. It can mean a hold-up if clearance takes longer than the previous steps, and a small share of parcels later show "Clearance delay - Import".

What happens next

Most often, in about half of cases, the next update is "International shipment release - Import", which means customs has cleared the parcel. After that it returns to the FedEx network for delivery. Some parcels instead:

  • become available for pickup
  • show that paperwork is waiting for the broker
  • show a clearance delay

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history for a release message.
  • If you hired the broker, or the seller named one, ask them for the status. They may need documents such as the invoice or ID, and may charge duties or taxes.
  • If nothing changes for longer than usual, contact FedEx or the seller.
  • Have your tracking number and order details ready.
