A UPS driver took your parcel out for delivery but could not hand it over. Nobody was available to receive it, or the driver could not complete the drop-off. The parcel is not lost. It went back on the truck and is returned to a UPS facility. UPS plans a second attempt on the next business day.
Yes, by one delivery attempt, but this is a routine exception rather than a sign of a serious problem. The parcel is still moving. It becomes a concern only if further failed attempts follow, since UPS may then hold the parcel or return it to the sender.
Most often the parcel shows "Processing at UPS Facility" (about half of cases, and more with the "On the Way" variant) while it is sorted for the next delivery run. Sometimes the next entry records delivery instructions you provided, or a request to hold the parcel at a UPS Access Point. Occasionally a second "missed you" message appears, announcing a final attempt.
