UPS tried to deliver, or planned to deliver, and was told the recipient is away on vacation. Because of that, the delivery has been moved to a later date. The parcel is still in UPS's network, usually at a local facility or on a delivery vehicle, and has not been lost or returned.
This message is an exception, though not a serious one. It means the delivery will not happen on the original date. The delay is deliberate and follows a vacation notice, so it does not point to damage or loss. The new delivery date may be longer than you expected if the notice covers a long absence.
UPS will usually make a new delivery attempt once the rescheduled date arrives, and the tracking history should then show the parcel going out for delivery again. If the hold is released early or the date changes, the history will update.
