UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

UPS brokerage is the part of UPS that handles customs paperwork for international parcels. This message means your parcel has reached the customs stage, but the brokerage team was late in processing its documents. The parcel is in a UPS facility, usually after a warehouse scan, and is waiting for that paperwork to be completed.

Is my package delayed?

Yes. This message is an exception, not a routine step. UPS is telling you the delay has already happened. It is not a sign that the parcel is lost or damaged, and the message is rare.

What happens next

The next update is usually a notice that the parcel is pending release from a Government Agency, meaning customs. Once customs releases it, the parcel goes back into the normal delivery route. How long customs takes is outside UPS's control, so this step can take longer than the previous ones.

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history for the customs update.
  • Watch for a request from UPS or the seller for missing information or documents, and answer it promptly.
  • Be ready to pay import duties or taxes if they apply to your order.
  • If the status stays the same for longer than you expected, contact UPS, or the seller if they shipped it, with your tracking number and order details.
