UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

UPS adds this notice when something has disrupted the planned route of your parcel, such as bad weather, a transport problem or a busy network. It is a general delay message, not a scan at a specific place. Your parcel is still inside the UPS network, and UPS is reworking the plan for getting it to you.

Is my package delayed?

Yes, this is an exception. The message itself says the delivery may be late. It does not mean the parcel is lost or damaged. The notice often appears more than once on the same shipment, so seeing it repeated is not unusual.

What happens next

Most often the notice is simply repeated while UPS updates the plan. After that, the parcel usually moves on again. Typical next steps are:

  • a departure scan, sometimes marked as heading to USPS for the last part of the trip
  • an export scan, if the parcel is leaving the country
  • an arrival scan at a USPS facility
  • Out for Delivery

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history for a new scan.
  • If nothing changes for longer than the previous steps took, contact UPS with your tracking number.
  • If the parcel is still not moving, contact the seller and have your order details and tracking number ready.
  • Make sure your delivery address is correct, in case UPS needs to reach you.
