UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

UPS is telling you that a vehicle problem, such as a breakdown of a delivery truck or another transport vehicle, has held up your parcel. The parcel is in UPS's network, either on a vehicle or at a facility, and has not been lost. UPS is changing its plans to get it moving again, and the message says delivery will be rescheduled.

Is my package delayed?

Yes, this is an exception. The message itself says delivery has been delayed, so the original schedule probably no longer holds. It is not usually a sign that the parcel is damaged or lost. The same message often appears more than once in a row while UPS reorganizes the delivery.

What happens next

Most often the parcel is scanned again at a UPS facility, with "Arrived at Facility" or "Departed from Facility", which shows it is moving again. Sometimes another notice appears first, such as a general warning that operating conditions may delay it. For international parcels, a customs hold for duties and taxes can also show up, but that is a separate step and not caused by the breakdown.

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history for a new scan. A new facility scan is a good sign.
  • If a customs or payment notice appears, follow its instructions, because the parcel will stay on hold until it is settled.
  • If the delay lasts longer than you expected and nothing new appears, contact UPS. Have your tracking number ready.
  • If UPS cannot help, contact the seller and give them your order details.
