UPS

The package is not claim eligible because the liability period has passed

UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

UPS has been searching for a parcel it could not locate, and this message says the claim window has closed. The "liability period" is the time in which a claim for a lost or damaged parcel can be filed. It does not mean the parcel has been found or delivered. It usually means the search has not turned the parcel up, and the parcel is not in a normal delivery flow.

Is my package delayed?

This is an exception, not a routine step. It follows a UPS investigation to locate the package, so the parcel has already gone missing in the network. It is best treated as a likely loss rather than a delay, though this message alone does not confirm it.

What happens next

The step that most often follows is a note that a claim has been paid to the sender. UPS settles with the shipper, not with you, so the message tells you to contact the sender for more information. Any refund or replacement then comes from the seller.

What you can do

  • Check the tracking history for a claim-paid entry or a delivery scan.
  • Contact the seller or sender and ask about a refund or replacement, since UPS has dealt with the claim through them.
  • Have your tracking number, order number and delivery address ready.
  • If the seller cannot help, contact UPS with the same details and ask about the investigation.
