UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

UPS has pulled your parcel aside for an inspection. This usually happens at a sorting facility or during customs handling, so the parcel is in UPS's network but is not moving for the moment. The message is often a routine check, and UPS says it will contact you if it needs anything from you.

Is my package delayed?

This message by itself is normal, not a sign of a problem. An inspection can add a pause, so the parcel may sit at this step longer than at the previous ones. The most common next step is an ordinary scan, which means the parcel went on its way. Sometimes the next message says the parcel is pending release from a government agency, which means a customs or regulatory check is still open.

What happens next

  • Most often (about 38% of cases) a Warehouse Scan follows and the parcel continues moving.
  • In about a quarter of cases the parcel is held for release by a government agency, and delivery is rescheduled.
  • Less often it shows a departure from the facility, or the same inspection message appears again.

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking your tracking history. Most inspections clear without any action from you.
  • Watch for a UPS notice asking for information. If one arrives, answer it promptly.
  • If the parcel is international, be prepared for possible customs duties or taxes.
  • If it stays on this step longer than usual, contact UPS or the seller. Have your tracking number and order details ready.
