Sensor Event Received

UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

"Sensor Event Received" is a technical scan entry from UPS. It means a sensor or tracking device linked to the shipment sent a signal that was recorded in the tracking system. It is not a normal handover or delivery scan. It does not say where the parcel is, and it does not describe a problem with the contents. It is usually seen on shipments that carry monitoring equipment, or when UPS systems log an automatic reading.

Is my package delayed?

This message by itself is not a sign of delay. It is a miscellaneous entry, not a failed delivery or a return notice. What matters is the next update. If the following scans show the parcel moving between facilities, all is normal. If a service disruption or a return-to-sender notice appears, that is a separate event and the one to act on.

What happens next

Normally the parcel simply continues along its route, and the next entry will be an ordinary movement scan such as a facility arrival, a departure or an out-for-delivery update. If nothing new appears for longer than the previous steps took, the parcel may be held up somewhere in the network.

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history for a new scan.
  • If the status stays unchanged for longer than usual, contact UPS and have your tracking number ready.
  • If a return-to-sender or disruption notice appears, ask the seller what happened, using your order details.
  • Check that the delivery address on the order is correct.
