UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

The package has entered the United States and is in the import clearance stage. UPS is preparing the shipment details so they can be submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration, which reviews certain goods such as food, cosmetics, supplements and medical items. The parcel is usually held at a UPS facility or a clearing agent while this happens.

Is my package delayed?

This message alone is a normal part of import clearance, not a sign of a problem. It can sit on the tracking page for longer than the previous steps, because a government agency has to look at the shipment before it moves on. Treat it as a delay only if the line stays unchanged for much longer than you would expect.

What happens next

  • Most often the package is released by the government agency and moves on.
  • Sometimes the status changes to "pending release from a Government Agency", which means more information may be needed from the sender or receiver.
  • After release, you will usually see an import or warehouse scan and then "on the way".

What you can do

  • Wait and keep checking the tracking history for a new line.
  • Watch for a notice from UPS asking for documents or product details, and answer it quickly.
  • If the status has not changed for longer than usual, contact UPS or the seller. Have your tracking number and order details ready.
  • Ask the seller what the item is and what paperwork they filed, since the FDA looks at the contents.
