UPS tracking parcel

What this status means

A customs or other government agency is checking this UPS shipment and needs more information or documents before it can let the parcel continue. The parcel is being held in the customs process, usually at a UPS facility, while UPS waits for the sender or receiver to supply what is missing. This might be a description of the contents, an invoice, the value of the goods or an ID number.

Is my package delayed?

This message is an exception rather than a routine scan. The parcel is paused until the information is provided, so a delay is likely if the request is not dealt with. It is not necessarily a sign of a serious problem, as such requests are common on international shipments.

What happens next

Once the agency has what it needs, the parcel normally goes back into the regular flow. The most common next scans are a warehouse scan or "Your package is on the way", each in about one third of cases. Export or import scans can also follow as the parcel crosses borders.

What you can do

  • Check your email, text messages and UPS notifications for a request for documents or details.
  • If you are the receiver, ask the seller whether they have been contacted, and send any invoice or ID details they request.
  • If the status stays the same for longer than the previous steps took, contact UPS or the seller.
  • Have your tracking number and order details ready when you call.
